You live in a world of perverse incentives and mass delusions

What is a Hoaxiverse, and why you live in one

dystopian scene of mask wearing, socially distanced, mentally broken people queuing up for something.

Many people have come to the same conclusions in recent times. It’s been very difficult to NOT notice the growing chasm between the official narratives, the unquestionable truths, the commonly accepted consensus, versus plain old honest-to-God reality. Whether it’s the insane gender ideology nonsense, or the growing intolerance of basic actual rights, like free speech, coming into conflict with made-up rights, like “safe spaces.” England’s own health service finally looked at the puberty-blocker business in 2024, the Cass review, and the evidence underneath it was weak. They stopped handing the drugs out as routine treatment for kids. Over here you were still supposed to call that science, and call yourself a bigot for noticing. The University of Chicago wrote the obvious rule down in 2014: it is not the job of a university to shield people from ideas they find offensive. Ten years later the same campuses treat a bad opinion like an emergency and a “safe space” like a right.

Clearly, the increasing fragility, ingratitude, and feeling of entitlement of our young people, their complete ignorance of historical context, their complete ignorance in general, highlights an education system that has not only failed, it has largely been replaced by ideological indoctrination, and it’s not a “both sides” situation. The public and private institutions are all completely dominated by left wing ideology, it permeates and dominates governments, mainstream news media, Hollywood, the music industry, even sports. The long-running UCLA faculty survey is the polite version of the same fact: liberals and the far left outnumber conservatives about four to one, and that is just the professors. I’ll argue in a future post that the whole left vs right dogma is completely wrong, or at least not relevant anymore. We’re in a common-sense vs lunacy era, or reasonable vs unreasonable era. And the lunacy is coming from more than one source and for more than one reason, it’s a perfect storm of converging interests. Sadly, the converging interests of our growing list of enemies. More on this later, I promise.

The final straw for most people, the final nail in the coffin of expert authority, was of course the outrageously overblown, and under science-backed, worldwide response to the Covid-19 “pandemic.” For the skeptical among us, those who paid close attention to the broad based data sources and the large number of expert dissenting voices, as opposed to the hyper-distilled and narrowly focused official news media parroting of government propaganda, the thing was full of converging self-interests. The signers of the Great Barrington Declaration are the obvious case. October 2020. Martin Kulldorff at Harvard, Sunetra Gupta at Oxford, Jay Bhattacharya at Stanford, saying protect the old and the sick and stop locking everybody else in the house. Four days later Francis Collins, then head of the NIH, emailed Tony Fauci about these “three fringe epidemiologists” and said there needed to be “a quick and devastating published take down” of what they had written, and was it underway. Fauci wrote back that it was. Fringe. Harvard, Oxford, Stanford. That is what they meant by following the science. The two guys holding the money decided the argument was over, and the press saluted.

Anthony Fauci covering up the virus origin sits in his own records. January 31, 2020, Kristian Andersen emailed him that he and a few others had gone through the genome and it did not look like ordinary evolution. Some of the features, he said, potentially looked engineered. February 1 they were all on a call, Fauci, Francis Collins, Jeremy Farrar, Andersen, Eddie Holmes. Fauci told Farrar that if the concern held, it should be reported to the appropriate authorities, and he named the FBI and MI5. Six weeks later the same scientists published “Proximal Origin” in Nature Medicine and told the world this was not a lab construct. Andersen’s note to the journal said the paper had been prompted by Farrar, Fauci, and Collins. NIH money, out of Fauci’s own institute, had already been going through EcoHealth Alliance into bat-coronavirus work at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the lab in the city where it started. Then for two years, if you said the word lab, you were a conspiracy theorist, and Fauci was often the one saying it. That’s a cover-up.

Nancy Pelosi, on Morning Joe, March 31, 2020, with the country already shut: she said we’d probably be moving to universal vote by mail, she wanted the money “to facilitate the reality of life,” and if you didn’t like it you were raising questions about “the integrity of the election system.” The House put election money for exactly that into the HEROES Act that May. Not to cheat or anything, of course.

And the early results from actual data, like the Diamond Princess stuck off Yokohama in February 2020, kept showing the same result. The CDC wrote it up at the end of March. About 3,700 people on the boat, 712 positive, nearly half of them with no symptoms when they were tested, passengers mostly around seventy. Nine dead by the middle of March. The later count was fourteen, one of those after a passenger got home to Australia. This was no worse than a medium flu season, and in some ways better, because the young were not impacted. And the old who were dying had, on average, multiple comorbidities.

You will be shown other numbers. Excess mortality. The big official COVID death totals. Those numbers are wrong. There is a huge amount of ass-covering in them. At the time, just about every death was labeled Covid no matter what the actual cause of death, and then the label was used to “prove” how bad the pandemic was.

The CDC wrote the rule down. March 4, 2020, their alert to the people who sign death certificates: COVID-19 should be reported for every decedent “where the disease caused or is assumed to have caused or contributed to death.” Assumed. Their April guidance, which is still the guidance, says if you cannot make a definite diagnosis but it seems likely, write “probable” or “presumed,” and a positive test is nice but not required “if the circumstances are compelling within a reasonable degree of certainty.” A doctor who never saw a test could still put COVID on the bottom line of the certificate. That bottom line is the statistic.

Illinois said it into a microphone. April 2020, Dr. Ngozi Ezike, the state public health director: if you tested positive at the time of death, you were a COVID death. A hospice patient who already had weeks to live, and then tested positive, was a COVID death. Her line, verbatim enough to ruin the press conference: technically even if you died of a clear alternate cause, but you had COVID at the same time, it was still listed as a COVID death. Everyone listed as a COVID death had not necessarily died of COVID. They had COVID, or someone assumed they did, when they died.

Colorado got caught in May 2020 and had to split the books. They had been announcing 1,150 COVID deaths. Death certificates that actually named COVID: 878. Governor Polis, not a blogger: “What the people of Colorado want to know is not who died with COVID-19, but who died of COVID-19.” A coroner in Montezuma County said a man dead of alcohol poisoning was in the state’s COVID count because he had tested positive. In June 2021 Alameda County, California, took 411 people off its list, a quarter of the county’s COVID deaths, down from 1,634 to 1,223. The county had been counting people who died with a positive test. Their spokesperson said there were deaths “clearly not” caused by COVID. They fixed the spreadsheet a year late, after the number had already been used. Do that across a country, then feed the certificates into a model, and you get the giant excess-mortality chart. The chart is not a check on the label. The chart is the label, added up.

They also paid for the label. Section 3710 of the CARES Act gave hospitals a 20 percent bonus on the Medicare inpatient payment if the discharge said COVID. Kaiser Family Foundation looked at what Medicare had been paying for similar stays: about $13,000 for a bad respiratory admission, about $40,000 if the patient was on a ventilator more than 96 hours. Scott Jensen, family doctor and Minnesota state senator, said it on television in April 2020, about $13,000 if it’s COVID and about $39,000 if you put them on a ventilator. The fact-checkers confirmed the money and then wrote a second half explaining why no hospital would ever notice. Until September 2020, Medicare did not even require a positive test to pay the 20 percent. The code was the claim. Same month the CDC is telling certifiers they may assume COVID, Medicare is paying extra for the word COVID, and paying a great deal extra if a ventilator ran for four days. Are you following the incentives yet? You bet the hospitals were.

The standard of care was cobbled together to outlaw inexpensive and effective treatments, in favor of mass-vaccination with an experimental mRNA concoction. And most of the actual COVID deaths were preventable, if the proper medications had been given at the start, instead of the thing they actually told people to do.

What they told you to do was stay home. CDC, March 2020: fever and a cough, stay home, most people do not need a test and do not need a doctor. Call for help when you are short of breath, when your chest hurts, when you are confused, when your lips turn blue. Sit in the house until you cannot breathe. Then come in.

What they would not give you, while you were still a person who could swallow a pill, was the cheap drug. Harvey Risch, epidemiologist at the Yale School of Public Health, wrote in Newsweek on July 23, 2020, that hydroxychloroquine at the beginning of the illness, with zinc and an ordinary antibiotic, was keeping high-risk patients alive, and that tens of thousands were dying because it was being withheld. He named the doctors already doing it, including Vladimir Zelenko in New York. The FDA went the other direction. March 28, 2020, emergency authorization aimed the national stockpile of hydroxychloroquine at people already in the hospital, which is late. June 15 they cancelled even that. Afterward a lot of pharmacies would not fill an early script, and state boards opened files on the doctors who kept writing them. When the same fight moved to ivermectin, the FDA’s contribution, on Twitter, August 21, 2021, was “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.” Pierre Kory and the FLCCC doctors had already told a Senate hearing that ivermectin, used early, was what was working on the patients they could still treat. The agencies’ answer was that a drug like that belongs in a trial they run, which is a way of saying your patient does not get it this week.

There is a reason the cheap drug had to lose. Under the emergency-use statute, you do not get to authorize an experimental product if there is already an adequate, approved, available alternative. If hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin counted, the shot’s emergency authorization got harder, and the mandate got harder with it. So the old drugs were declared inadequate, the doctors who used them were declared dangerous, and the experimental product became the only door you were allowed to walk through.

I won’t pretend I didn’t say the next part. Mass-murdering by ventilator happened too.

In New York that spring the move, once you came in unable to breathe, was get the tube in early. The WHO’s clinical guidance of March 13, 2020 told hospitals to be afraid of high-flow oxygen and the mask machines, because the staff might inhale the virus, so use them only with airborne precautions and watch the patient constantly. The Surviving Sepsis COVID guidelines, same month, said if someone on oxygen starts to worsen, intubate them early, in a controlled setting, before they crash. Early turned into the default. The ventilator was the protocol.

Cameron Kyle-Sidell, an ER doctor at Maimonides in Brooklyn, said in a video at the end of March 2020 that he thought they were treating the wrong disease. The patients needed oxygen. They did not need the pressure the usual ARDS recipe was driving into their lungs. “I’m quite sure a ventilator is not it.” He said the high pressures were damaging the lungs of the people he was tubing, and that a lot of them looked like they were starving for air, the way you would at altitude, not like ordinary pneumonia. The New York Post had him on April 6. He was describing his own emergency room.

The Northwell numbers came out in JAMA on April 22, 2020. Richardson and her colleagues, 5,700 hospitalized patients in the New York area. Of the ventilated patients whose cases were already finished, 88 percent were dead. Over 65 it was 97 percent. Plenty of ventilated patients were still in the beds when they stopped counting, so the 88 percent is not “every person who ever saw a tube.” It is what a finished case looked like. Almost nobody who had been intubated and then left the hospital had left it alive. The same week, Gattinoni and Marini wrote in JAMA that a lot of these lungs were not the stiff lungs that cookbook was built for, and that cranking the pressure could wreck them. The cookbook did not get thrown out. The stay paid more when the ventilator was in the chart. The public was told the machine was the last hope.

So the sequence, as policy, was: stay home, no early medicine, come in when you are turning blue, put you on a ventilator at the wrong settings, collect the higher Medicare rate, and list COVID on the certificate whether or not COVID is what killed you. That is how most of the people who actually had it, and a lot of people who didn’t, ended up in the number. The deaths that were real were mostly preventable. The deaths that weren’t COVID were counted anyway. Both of those facts are doing work in the official total, which is why the official total cannot be used to shout the first fact down.

The rest of the rules were made up, and they admitted it once the questioning was under oath instead of on television.

Mask mandates. Six feet of social distance, which is a made-up number that rearranged every classroom and every business in the country. Fauci, in his transcribed interview with the House in January 2024, said the six-foot rule “sort of just appeared.” No study. They made you do it anyway.

Lockdowns that would not end. The thing Kulldorff, Gupta, and Bhattacharya actually proposed, focused protection, never got tried, because trying it meant saying the lockdown was a choice and not a law of nature. Collins had already ordered the takedown.

Then the shot. Experimental mRNA, sold as the way out, and then mandated after it had already failed at the job they described. Rochelle Walensky, March 29, 2021, on Rachel Maddow, in the voice of the CDC: vaccinated people “do not carry the virus, don’t get sick.” April 1 her own agency told the New York Times she had spoken too broadly, and that vaccinated people could still get COVID, and nobody had shown they couldn’t spread it. She had said it anyway. In July the CDC’s own report on the Provincetown outbreak, Barnstable County, counted 469 cases and 346 of them fully vaccinated. Seventy-four percent. Most of those breakthrough cases were sick, not silent positives. That is the month it was admitted, by the CDC, that the shot did not stop infection or spread. The mandates got harder after that. Jobs, schools, the military, travel, boosters, boosters again. Even when the vaccines were found to be completely ineffective at what had been promised, which was that you would not get it, you would not carry it, and you would not need any of this anymore. They kept forcing them.

Many of us could not reconcile the justifications. To us, it was all obviously a hoax. For others, it was an existential threat and anti-vaxxers deserved to die. For those of us living in reality, the “real world” as it were, it was all a bit much. Were we losing our minds, or was everyone around us completely bonkers?

Welcome to the Hoaxiverse. My friends, you are not crazy, you are merely awake. The people around you are in a deep dreamlike state of denial of reality that grows deeper with every crazy turn of authoritarian mandate. It seems to be an unfortunate fact that many people prefer to believe a comforting lie, than an uncomfortable truth.
